Casey Veggies: Loved Then Alone, from Sleeping in Class
Not bad for a high school kid. Cali is holding it down as of late.
Speaking of, there’s a wave of good music coming out of California lately…
Everyone sitting somewhere in between Kendrick Lamar and the Odd Future collective has a distinguishing, audible eccentricity to them that separates their act from the rest of the white noise. Whether it’s Kendrick’s effortlessly cogent poetry (or that fuckin’ nasal lith’p thing he’s got goin’ on…), Tyler’s entertaining projection of Eminem as a member of the GraveDiggaz, or NoCanDo’s adroit exploitation of the English language’s malleability, there lies something special within all of these acts (that doesn’t come off as gimmicky). A lot of these guys could use some polish, but the fact that they’re so proficient at their craft this early in their respective careers speaks volumes for the shit they should be capable of producing in the future. Don’t forget Dom, Blu, Fa’Shawn and the rest of those cats slated to drop full-lengths one day… They bring heat.
There’s a lot of good shit coming out of the left-side. Hopefully, all of it doesn’t get relegated to blog-purgatory and Pitchfork-reader podcasts because of it’s internet popularity. That’d suck.
